Hello and welcome to the Northumberland County VAGenweb page. I have been pleased to be your county coordinator for some time now. I am sad that I have not been able to put as much new information as I would have liked on this site since I took it over, but now I have the time and some resources to add to the page. Watch out for new additions over the next few weeks. I have also a large collection of tombstone photographs in this area that I have been preparing for the website.
As always, submissions are very welcome. If you have any documents or information on genealogy in Northumberland County, email me and share it with everyone that views this website. Submissions can be sent to EmbryProject@gmail.com

Named for a County in England and originally called Chickcoun, the history of the county dates back to 1648 when it was officially established, although the area began to be settled earlier in the 17th Century. The county was split in the early 1650's with Lancaster County being formed from the southern part in 1652, and Westmoreland County being formed out of the western part of Northumberland County in 1653. Heathsville is the seat of Northumberland County. The county records suffered some loss in a fire in the clerk's office on 25 October 1710.
