“Marriage Bonds-Frederick County Virginia”
John ANDERSON and Mary PEARCE
Know all men by these Presents, That we John ANDERSON & Jo’s PEARCE are held and firmly bound unto his Excellency Robert BROOKES Esq. Governor of Virginia, in the just and full sum of one hundred and fifty Dollars, to which payment well and truly to be made, to the said Governor, or his successors, we bind ourselves, our heirs, executors, and administrators, jointly and feverally, firmly by these presents. Sealed with our seal, and dated this 10th day of Nov. 1795.
The condition of the above obligation is such, that, whereas there is a marriage suddenly intended to be solemnized between the above bound John ANDERSON and Mary PEARCE now if there be no lawful cause to obstruct the said Marriage, then the above obligation to be void and of no effect, otherwise to remain in full force and virtue.
Sealed and delivered
in presence of
J PEYTON
John (his mark) ANDERSON LS
Joseph PEIRCE LS
NOTE: John ANDERSON’s mark appears to be two German written letters. The John ANDERSON who married Catharine HAYMAKER on 25 August 1795 appears to have signed his own name in English.
